Impact of Satellite Attitude on Altimetry Calibration with Microwave Transponders

چکیده
Satellite altimetry plays a key role in monitoring changes sea level and climate change. The quality of satellite products is commonly ensured through dedicated calibration. One such calibration with microwave transponders acting as ground reference point targets. It common practice that ranges between the transponder phase center gravity (CoG) are compared against true geometric to determine bias. Transponder are, however, realized by two centers altimeter transponder. So, make this comparison feasible, space origin measured range transferred from (APC) CoG applying constant offset, usually referred “CoG correction”. Instead fixed correction”, work introduces actual vector APC space, examining attitude. Thus, observed distances both APC. case Jason-3 Sentinel-6A Michael Freilich (Sentinel-6A MF) on Crete (CDN1) Gavdos (GVD1) islands examined. At first, attitude determined its quaternions. Then, analysis reveals bias correlated revised brings about which fluctuate −2 mm 1 −110μs +110 μs datation for Jason-3. Finally, methodology crossover over GVD1 results an improvement mean ascending descending orbits 12% 14% (preliminary) MF.

The first dedicated soil moisture satellite mission will be the European Space Agency's Soil Moisture and Ocean Salinity (SMOS) mission. This satellite, scheduled for launch in the second half of 2009, has a new type of satellite design that is based on the radio-astronomy technique of simulating a large antenna from a number of smaller ones placed some distance apart. Because of its unique des...
متن کاملThe Impact of Geophysical Corrections on Sea-Ice Freeboard Retrieved from Satellite Altimetry
Satellite altimetry is the only method to monitor global changes in sea-ice thickness and volume over decades. Such missions (e.g., ERS, Envisat, ICESat, CryoSat-2) are based on the conversion of freeboard into thickness by assuming hydrostatic equilibrium. Freeboard, the height of the ice above the water level, is therefore a crucial parameter. Freeboard is a relative quantity, computed by sub...

15 صفحه اولThe Dependence of Short-range Ocean Forecasts on Satellite Altimetry
Short-range ocean forecast and reanalysis systems routinely combine observations from satellite altimetry, satellite sea surface temperature (SST), and in situ temperature and salinity, to initialise global and regional ocean models. The most critical observation type for eddy-resolving applications is arguably satellite altimetry. To quantify the impact of satellite altimetry observations on a...
